20-year Biodiversity Stewardship Analysis
Conservation Outcomes is assisting SANBI and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), through World Bank funding, to develop an understanding of the scale of success of Biodiversity Stewardship as a means of securing critical biodiversity, by exploring the progress of securing biodiversity stewardship sites over the past 20 years across all provinces. This will include an understanding of the contribution that these existing biodiversity stewardship sites make to securing biodiversity assets, including Critical Biodiversity Areas (CBAs), Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), Strategic Water Source Areas (SWSAs) and ecosystem services, including cultural and indigenous knowledge systems, as well as the socio-economic values of Biodiversity Stewardship. This will allow the national Biodiversity Stewardship programme to continually learn from its current implementation and adapt and grow as required.
