BirdLife SA Partnership
Conservation Outcomes and BirdLife South Africa share a long-standing partnership focused on securing critical habitats in KwaZulu-Natal, particularly endangered remnants of Mistbelt Grassland and Forest, which are vital for threatened bird species like Blue Swallows and Cape Parrots. Through collaboration with landowners and the Biodiversity Stewardship Programme, the partnership drives the declaration of new Protected Areas. This project also aims to empower landowners to effectively manage their protected areas, ensuring long-term biodiversity conservation and compliance with NEM:PAA regulations, with effective Management Support.
Ingula –
As part of our conservation efforts, we conduct Blue Swallow monitoring in partnership with BirdLife South Africa. Our monitoring activities aim to track population trends, assess habitat conditions, and support conservation initiatives to protect this critically endangered species. To enhance our data collection and reporting efficiency, we utilize the EarthRanger app to collate.
Secondment – Steve McKean has been seconded to BirdLife SA to coordinate the Other Effective Area-based Conservation measure project, a project aimed at establishing mechanisms to recognise OECMs in our conservation estate, a project funded by the Nedbank WWF-SA Green Trust.
