Rain Forest Trust
Conservation Outcomes has been working with a number of conservation organisations in South Africa in pursuing formal protected area declarations for properties with valuable biodiversity. Conservation Outcomes has been actively involved in reviewing, updating and streamlining the process to implement the Biodiversity Stewardship mechanism in several provinces of the country (the primary mechanism to declare private and communal areas as new protected areas) and has therefore actively supported various conservation NGOs in making protected area submissions through existing government structures. Conservation Outcomes has supported the Endangered Wildlife Trust in particular with these submissions, achieving recent declarations for a number of their key sites, including Umgavusa Protected Environment and Ora Nature Reserve and the initiation of a further three sites into the public participation process. Therefore, the Endangered Wildlife Trust requested further assistance from Conservation Outcomes in addressing declaration delays and blockages in the other provinces where they have Rainforest Trust funded projects, namely the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces, where EWT currently has 16 sites (totalling approximately 65,000 acres) at various stages of the Stewardship process.
