The Barberton-Makhonjwa Sustainable Conservation Finance Initiative

This project aims to address the long-term sustainability of Barberton Nature Reserve, related to biodiversity conservation, environmental management, socio-economic beneficiation, and the financial viability of the nature reserve. The project addressed the role that Care for Wild (https://careforwild.co.za/) is playing as a co-management partner in the long-term management of the nature reserve, thus ensuring its financial viability and long-term security. Conservation Outcomes continues to support Care for Wild as it undertakes a landscape level conservation initiative, incorporating Barberton and Songimvelo Nature Reserves, focussed on the re-wilding of rhinos, ecological restoration and community beneficiation. As part of this initiative, Conservation Outcomes is exploring the listing of Barberton Nature Reserve on the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas.
